Andan supervising Mr. Djanto planting a fir tree.
The first thing we did on our new purchased land in TW ( abbreviation of Tawangmangu) was to plant trees.
Our neighbor mister Djanto who is a farmer helped us.
We planted 15 trees, most of them fir trees.
One is a lemon tree, another is a Ketapang which we call an umbrella tree because of it's shape.

The first tree that Djanto planted is a fir tree that we all agreed to name:                                                                       CARL.

Carl Tree
is now part of what I call my "Quebec forest". Later we will put up a traditional Javanese house that will serve as my office and relaxing room. I will have my own "cabane à Java".
When I clapped hands to celebrate the planting of Carl the Tree, we became silent. Andan, Ardjanto and I probably thinking that the
Carl Tree will survive Carl by many years.

When Andan, her family and my family see the tree, memories of Carl the human being will surely come to mind.

After the day of planting, I thanked mister Ardjanto and said: " you must from now on take special care of the Carl Tree and speak to it when you water it.
His wife, looked at me, smiled and then turning towards the tree said:" selamat sore Pak Carl" (good evening mister Carl).

How beautiful it is to get up and go out and do something. We are here on Earth to fart around. Don't let anybody tell you any different.
