The Solitary Bechak Drivers Of Solo City, Java

Picture
I am always impressed when I see people who can sleep almost anywhere
without worrying about other people’s presence.
I think that sleeping in public is a very private and personal act. When I approach these sleeping bechak drivers I feel a certain reticence.
It is a though I am entering a stranger’s home and walking into his bedroom to photograph him while he is  in the intimate sleep position.

In her own world of Silence and darkness   /   Dans son monde de silence et d'obscurité

I came across this serene scene of this old woman doing her laundry in front of her house. I took an image of the setting in general then I walked up to the lady to ask her to pose for me.
The woman did not look up at me. She ignored my presence totally. The next-door neighbor explained that the woman could neither hear nor talk. I suspect that her vision is also very impaired, as she did not see me when I was close to her.

In Indonesian language, a gang means a narrow street or alleyway

Waiting the departure of the school boat in Banda Neira

The village of Banda Neira is the only settlement of significant size on any of the Banda Islands,
located in the Maluku province of Indonesia.
The children living ont the Islands of Ai, Run, Api, Hatta and others
must take boats to go to the schools in Banda Neira.

Nothing is lost                        /                        Rien ne se perd

This woman carries away the bark of the teak wood logs that were transported to the sawmill.  She will also carry back home all the sawdust and wood chips that will serve as fuel for cooking.
