In the dark  with George Z.                                        /                            Dans le noir avec M. George Z.

In the dark accompanied by master photographer George Zimbel. A day that gave me the desire to go back to making prints in the darkroom. Mr. George Zimbel not only offered me the use of his darkroom but he advised me on the density and contrast of a photo I took in Indonesia. George is a documentary photographer who used mostly Leica cameras. He was a friend of Garry Winogrand and was member of the Photo League.

Mr. Marteen.

May He Rest In Peace                                                                                                                         Qu'il Repose En Paix

Photography captures and stops time. But time keeps on.
As Jack Jackson sings: « Time waits for no one».
Yesterday as I was riding my bicycle on the street I take every morning for exercise, a parking attendant stopped me and announced that Mr. Marteen had passed away a month ago.

(time waits for no one).

My friend frederic Smith   /  Mon ami Frédéric

Fred and I have been friends for over 50 years. He lives in Montreal. I now live in Java. It is a joy whenever we can meet by Skype or Face Time.

Cracking up

Picture
Mister Haryanto cracked up laughing while I was taking his photo.
Sometimes I wish I had a Leica Monochrome to create images with
but when I load the M6 with film, process it and scan the images,
I rediscover the joy of «slow photography with its surprises»

Elders of Mistassini    /   Sages de Mistassini

These men of the Cree Nation were very friendly but also very shy.
None looked at the camera.
I hope I did not offend them by taking this photograph.
Some might think I stole their soul.

Leica M6 50mm Summilux. Tri-X film
Picture
